Awards and Recognition of Scott Alvord

It is a little awkward and embarrassing to list my awards and recognition for everyone to see. Honestly, I'm more interested in my family having access to them so they can remember more of my service over my lifetime. But, for some professional situations, they can be beneficial as proof of walking the talk. There are a few of these that I no longer have in my possession and are only digitally recorded with a photograph as I don't have room to display them so a photo of them is all I have.

In the event of business awards where the public voted, especially for our restaurant, we merely asked our guests if they'd vote for us...and they happily did.

My Mantra

This quote means a lot to me. It is my motto, and I have tried to live up to this belief. I pray that my children and grandchildren reflect this in their lives:

"You are not here merely to make a living. You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world, and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand." ― Woodrow Wilson (28th US President)

Another belief I hold is that sharing positive experiences is not bragging. It is letting our light shine. Although my life was far from easy, I know that ultimately, I have been blessed far beyond what I deserve, and I thank my Savior for those experiences. This quote summarizes my beliefs:

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." ― Marianne Williamson

To my friends and family: Let your light shine!

Resolution of Commendation and Appreciation from City of Roseville

This is the most meaningful recognition I've received because it recaps many of the big highlights in my life. You can read the text of the resolution below. It was presented to me on December 11, 2024 at my last official city council meeting where I officially termed out of office. Shortly after this, I was honored to swear in my wife who easily won the election for my seat.

US Congressional Recognition, House of Representatives

In December 2024, Congressman Kevin Kiley filed this into the Congressional Record and he read it on the House floor, "Recognizing Roseville Councilmember Scott Alvord of Roseville, California." It was unexpected, flattering, and appreciated.

California State Legislature Recognition (Senate & House)

On December 11, 2024, Senator Roger Niello and Assemblyman Joe Patterson filed a Joint Members Resolution No. 514 relative to commending Honorable Scott Alvord for his service.

Key to the City of Roseville

On December 11, 2024, the mayor presented this Key to the City with a label that reads, "Thank you for your leadership on City Council 2016-2024." It is a meaningful symbol that is proudly displayed in my home office.

Neighborhood Association Recognitions

Before, during, and after my city council service, I have continually been present in neighborhood association meetings at least anywhere near where I lived. These were my neighbors and I wanted to support them and provide any information or assistance where possible. It was very sweet and thoughtful for them to present me with a Certificate of Recognition in early 2025. These certificates are from the Westpark Neighborhood Association and Fiddyment Farm Neighborhood Association (combined certificate), and the Solaire Neighborhood Association.

Community Voted "Best-of-the-Best" and "Readers Choice" Awards in the Press Tribune and Style Magazine

Here is a smattering of awards that are cherished because they were voted on by the community. They Include awards like, "Local Elected Official," (and variations of "Elected Official," and "Local Elected Official - Male"), "Favorite Civic Leader" and "Favorite Local Businessperson."

When I was contacted each year and notified of these awards, they were such a warm experience because I knew people took the time to vote for me. It was heartwarming to know I made a positive impression.

County of Placer (Board of Supervisors) Recognition

On December 11, 2024, Placer County Supervisor Shanti Landon presented a Certificate of Recognition. This was very gracious and appreciated.

Rotary Club - Service Excellence - Top Life Saver 2019-2020

On June 27, 2020, I received this special award for "19 Lives Saved" based on an estimate that 40 hours of community service equates to saving one life based on some stats I don't have details on, but I assume it pertains to their lifesaving work in poor countries and funds raised that equate to volunteer hours.

I was able to document 754 hours of service, mostly during the first several months of the pandemic as my work in the Roseville Volunteer Force was heavy for many months. I certainly wasn't expecting this, so it was nice to get recognized for that crazy time for our entire world. It was signed by Leigh-Ann Reinero, President 2019-2020, and Sheri Katz, Service Director 2019-2020. This was from the Rotary Passport One Club of Greater Sacramento.

Local Hero Award (Best-of-the-Best) - 2020 & 2021

Because of my work with the Roseville Volunteer Force during the height of the pandemic, the community voted me as "Local Hero" in the Press Tribune's Best-of-the-Best Awards. The link above should jump to the RVF section of the Community Service & Positions page where you can read more about the effort our 2,000+ army of volunteers gave to provide toilet paper, masks, computers, sanitizer, wipes, and much more to our community, including raising a lot of funding for homeless services.

This type of honor feels a little strange because I was doing what most people wanted to do: something to help others during a scary time for many. It wasn't for recognition, but my position in the community invoked enough trust that it inspired MANY to get involved as well.

Business Person of the Year Finalist (US Congressional Recognition)

In May 2015, I was elected as a finalist for the Gallina's Business Person of the Year as part of the Roseville Chamber of Commerce's awards process. In fact, I made the finalist list two years in a row, which was kinda cool considering the many applicants they got every year and the process for narrowing down the finalists.

I received US House recognition by Congressman Tom McClintock AND CA State Assembly.

Recognition Letter Written About Our Family

This letter came unexpectedly and was so kind and thoughtful that I wanted to save it somewhere. It was from the administrator of the Leoni Meadows Camp, where our daughter worked for a summer. It was about our youngest daughter, Sharna, and how she behaved and spoke about her family life.

Working on this one since emails on websites get lots of spam. I have a dozen different email accounts and will likely add another one for this puppy, but not yet.
